MORRIS — A team consisting of Mackenzie Granby, Austin Granby and Brandon Pasdertz, all members of the Highland Ag 4-H Club, won the 4-H Meats contest in the 2012 Illinois State FFA at the University of Illinois.
The three team members also individually placed first, second, and third, respectively. Team members evaluate beef, pork, and lamb carcasses, wholesale and retail meat cuts, and grade meat for quality and yield.
Participants are also required to identify 30 retail cuts of meat out of more than 125 different cuts. In addition to this, they must complete a ground meat formulation problem as a team.
