Yorkville High to host first Suicide Prevention Walk at school on Friday

Updated: June 11, 2012 10:13AM

YORKVILLE — Yorkville High School is hosting its first-ever Suicide Prevention Walk Friday afternoon to raise awareness about teen suicide.

The event will include a memorial wall for students and community members to remember friends and family lost to suicide; a time to walk around the track and reflect; and a balloon release.

TRY club and Student Council members will be selling balloons for the release; funds raised will be put toward suicide prevention and awareness foundations.

Balloons will be sold at school before event and at the event. The event will begin at 3 p.m. with a welcome; speaker Adam Mock at 3:15 p.m.; the walk at 3:45 p.m.; and the balloon release at 4:15 p.m.

Principal Ron Kiesewetter said the school has provided suicide prevention training for the staff this year, and the next “logical step is to get the community and students involved.”

For information, contact the high school at 630-553-4382.
