Biochemistry major honored

Grace Muganda of Bolingbrook was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in Biochemistry Award during Honors Day at North Central College.

Muganda is a senior double-majoring in biochemistry and computer science with minors in mathematics and bioinformatics.

She is the daughter of Godfrey and Lore Muganda, and was home-schooled.

She plans to pursue graduate studies in fall at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Peoria.

Asian Studies student wins award

Kelly Cox of Plainfield was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Major in East Asian Studies Award during Honors Day at North Central College.

Cox is a senior majoring in East Asian studies with a focus in Japanese. She is the daughter of Tracy and Terri Cox and a graduate of Plainfield South High School in Joliet.

Cox says after graduating she hopes to pursue a career in which she can use her East Asian Studies major in addition to her four languages of study —English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.

NIU journalism student awarded

Jennifer Beshansky of Mokena received two awards at the recent Journalism Banquet at Northern Illinois University.

Beshansky, a journalism major and communication studies minor, received the Kenneth Smith Scholarship, which is awarded to an outstanding journalism major.

JCA grad named to Dean’s List

Jennifer Gulas, a 2011 Joliet Catholic Academy graduate, was named to the Dean’s List at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for the fall semester. She is majoring in hospitality management.

Gulas also has been accepted for membership into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and has been inducted into Phi Eta Sigma, the University of Illinois’ chapter of the National Honor Society.
