Movie night under the stars: At 8 p.m. July 27, the Village of Plainfield and the Plainfield Park District will be showing “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” sponsored by Baxter and Woodman in Settlers’ Park at the Richard A Richard A. Rock Amphitheater in downtown Plainfield, at the southeast corner of the intersection of Lockport Street and Van Dyke Road and just south of the Village Hall. Terrace seating is available. Attendees are also encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. Concessions will be available for sale, and the proceeds will benefit the movies in the park event. If inclement weather is forecast, the movie screening will be canceled. Free outdoor movie: At dusk, approximately 8:45 p.m. July 27, “The Smurfs” will be screened for free at Main Park, at 10925 LaPorte Road in Mokena. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. Community wide garage sale: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 28, sponsored by the New Lenox Rotary Club during Proud American Days. All proceeds will go to the New Lenox Rotary and will be used to help fund the club’s charitable efforts, including scholarships for local high school seniors, support for the township food pantry and helping various non-profit organizations locally, nationally and internationally. All unsold items will be donated to the New Lenox Goodwill store.
