Power plant open house
WILMINGTON — Braidwood Generating Station will host an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Exelon’s Services and Training Center, 36400 S. Essex Road.
Employees will talk with visitors about station operations and enhancements made at the station following last year’s event at the Fukushima nuclear facility in Japan.
Visitors can tour the plant’s main control room simulator used to train reactor operators.
An update on ongoing tritium remediation efforts will also be provided.
Education foundation fundraiser
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Foundation for Excellence will host a Homecoming 5K run and 1-mile fun walk on Sept. 29 at Wilmington High School, 209 Wildcat Court.
Proceeds will enrich the educational opportunities of Wilmington students.
Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.; the race starts at 8:30 a.m., and the walk will begin at 8:45 a.m.
The entry fee is $15 before Thursday or $20 after that date and on race day.
To ensure that you receive a T-shirt at the race you must register by Thursday.

Electronics collection event
MINOOKA — The village of Minooka and Grundy County will be host a free electronic waste collection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Minooka Village Hall, 121 E. McEvilly Road.
Volunteers will be on hand to assist in transferring electronics from resident’s vehicles.

Midewin prairie tour
WILMINGTON — At 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25, the Will-South Cook Soil & Water Conservation District will host a three-hour tour of Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, 30239 S. State (Route 53).
The group will explore the transformation of the 19-acre former Joliet Arsenal site into the first national tallgrass prairie.
The cost is $5, with lunch served following the tour. Register by Sept. 21 by calling 815-462-3106, ext. 3.
Library hosting history trip
MORRIS — Morris Area Public Library will host a trip to the Joliet Historical Museum and the Joliet Renaissance Center on Sept. 26.
The bus will leave from the Library, 604 Liberty St., at 10 a.m.
The day will begin with a lunch buffet at the Joliet Renaissance Center adjacent to the museum. After a tour of the museum, the event will conclude with a performance by Robert Mestas as Robert E. Lee, who will share his perspective of the Civil War and demonstrate authentic relics and artifacts from the period.
The cost is $40, which includes transportation, a lunch buffet, the museum tour and the Robert E. Lee program.
