Get out and enjoy a pancake breakfast for a cause

Elgin American Legion is hosting a Sunday community breakfast that will include pancakes served up hot.

Essex pancake breakfast: 7 a.m. to noon Sept. 23 at Essex Lions Club, 217 Parls St., Essex. This month Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the breakfast accepting blood donations. The breakfast includes pancakes, French toast, hash browns, bacon, sausage, eggs any way you like, toast, orange juice, milk and coffee. Cost $6 adults, $4 ages 12 and younger.
Pancake breakfast: 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 23, sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 5 of Joliet at Stone City VFW Post 2199, 124 Stone City Drive in Joliet. All-you-can -eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice, coffee, milk and biscuits. Gravy available for an extra 50 cents. Carryouts available. A large bakery sale will take place. Proceeds help the troop pay for camp outings.
Fundraiser: Noon to 10 p.m. Sept. 23 hosted by the Lemont Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association to support the Hope and Friendship Foundation of Lemont at The Vault Cafe and Bar, 308 Canal St. in Lemont. St. Joe’s Oktoberfest: 1 to 8 p.m. Sept. 23, sponsored by St. Joseph Parish at St. Joe’s Park, Theodore and Raynor avenues in Joliet. There will be food, a beer garden, a bake sale, raffles, bingo and music. Free admission.
25 cent sale: 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24, Channahon United Methodist Church Thrift Shop, 24751 W. Eames St. in Channahon.
Luncheon meeting: At noon Sept. 26, Joliet Area Retired Teachers will meet at Al’s Steak House. The guest speaker is Bob Lyons, a member of the board of trustees for the teachers retirement system.
Garage sale: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 29, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1404 S. Briggs St., Joliet. All are welcome to shop for a large variety.
Ham dinner: 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 dinner served at Ingalls Park United Methodist church, corner of Washington and Davison streets in Joliet, at the church’s fellowship hall (handicap accessible. Carryouts are available. Menu includes ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetable, cole slaw, breads, beverage and dessert. Cost $10 adults; $4 ages 12 and younger. Call 815-722-2383.
