Flu vaccine is available in Grundy

Updated: February 24, 2013 6:08AM

The Grundy County Health Department has scheduled a flu vaccination clinic for children 3 to 18 years old from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Grundy County Administration Building, 1320 Union St., Morris.

Call 815-941-3419 to schedule an appointment. A limited supply of vaccine is available.

The Illinois Department of Public Health’s Vaccine for Children program will provide the vaccine for children 6 months to 18 years old to those who meet the requirements: children must reside in Grundy County, be an American Indian or Alaskan Native, have been enrolled in Medicaid or do not have health insurance that covers the cost of vaccines. People who have insurance that pays for immunizations are not eligible.

A $15 donation is requested for children receiving vaccines under this program, but people will not be turned away because of inability to pay.

The department also has a limited quantity of high-dose flu vaccine for ages 65 and older. The cost is $45. Medicare and Medicaid will cover the cost of this vaccine. Appointments can be made by calling 815-941-3419.
