Applause: Plainfield students in band festival

PLAINFIELD — Ten Plainfield School District high school music students took part in the 65th annual Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Conference festival.
The students traveled to Peoria to perform with the best high school musicians in the state.
Student musicians were: Plainfield East — Tim Fuqua, senior, All State Honors Band; E.J. Infante, senior, All State Honors Choir; Paige Porter, senior, All-State Honors Choir; Plainfield Central — Kayleen Brady, senior, All State Choir; Skylar Lipman, senior, All State Honors Orchestra; Plainfield North — Jazmine Hamilton, All State Honors Choir (top scorer in her section); Taylor Recek, All State Honors Choir; Grey Taxon, All State Honors Choir (top scorer in his section); and Plainfield South — Max O’Mary, junior, All State Band; Vicente Leyva, senior, participant in the Future Music Educators Symposium
Raffle winners
PEOTONE — The Peotone Educational Foundation held its $5,000 raffle Feb. 8 at half time of the varsity boys basketball game.
Winners were: $5,000, Wendy Watkins, Momence; $1,000, Brian Borden, Wilton Center; $500, Vicki Yaeger, Green Garden; $300, John Robbins, Manteno; $100, Jim Collins, Monee; $100, Jerry and Lorraine Davidson, Minooka; Early Bird winner, $500, Ron and Marge Hack, Peotone.
Broadcast honors
BOLINGBROOK — Anna Kopsky, a North Central College student broadcaster from Bolingbrook, earned 10 nominations in a national competition. Jay Modelski of Homer Glen also earned a nomination in the contest.
They are among 13 broadcasters representing WONC-FM 89.1, North Central College’s student-run radio station, who earned 26 nominations in the annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System competition.
Winners of the Golden Microphone Trophy Awards will be announced March 2 at the 73rd Annual IBS International Radio/Webcast Conference in New York City.
