Plainfield Central welcomes freshmen

PLAINFIELD — Knowing that high school can be a difficult transition for students and adults alike, Plainfield Central High School administrators will present a free program for parents of incoming freshmen.

Surviving High School — A Guide for Freshmen and their Parents will be presented 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the school auditorium, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive.

The program is intended for PHSCC parents, however students are also welcome to attend. Registration is not required.

Thursday starts year for Joliet students

JOLIET — The first day of school for all Joliet Grade School District students will be Thursday.

Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 in order to enter kindergarten.

Any new student and all students entering early childhood, kindergarten or sixth grade are required by the state to have a current physical examination and all required immunizations on file by the first day of school. Students will not be allowed to attend school or register without the appropriate documents.

The Illinois Department of Public Health also requires that all kindergarten, second- and sixth-grade students have a dental examination. In addition, all students enrolling in kindergarten and any student enrolling for the first time in an Illinois school must have an eye examination.

Parents or guardians who still need to enroll a new student must accompany the child to school to complete their registration and present three proofs of residency.

For more information, call the J.F. Kennedy Administrative Office at 815-740-3196.
