Donations: Donations help Komen race

The Plainfield North High School Cross Country teams hosted the team's third Annual Run-a-Thon on Sept. 6. About 42 members of the freshman, sophomore/junior varsity and varsity teams ran for an hour to raise money for hte American Cancer Society. They earned about $2,300 in pledges, a portion of which will go to the American Cancer Society. Some of the money will also benefit the team. SUBMITTED PHOTO

Donations help Komen race

BRACEVILLE — Employees at four Exelon Nuclear plants in Illinois made donations in exchange for a dozen ears of corn donated by Dean Sack of Peru. Money flowed in from Braidwood Station, Byron Generating Station, Clinton Power Station and LaSalle County Station.

More than $4,000 was raised for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure an organization dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.

Socks, underwear collection

PLAINFIELD — Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Joliet helps many children and seniors who need new underwear and socks.

St. Mary Immaculate, 15629 S. Route 59, will collect for “Undy Sunday.” Parish families are asked to donate any size new, packaged adult and children’s socks, underwear, pajamas and diapers.

Donations can be deposited at the table set up in the gym on Oct. 16. Donations will also be accepted in the Commons through Oct. 23. If you prefer to make a cash donation, make checks payable to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Joliet.
