Southwest notes: Ellis House hosts Halloween Spooktacular

Ellis House and Equestrian Center presents its Halloween spooktacular event from 5-9 p.m. Friday.
The event includes:
tractor-pulled hayrides: a guided hayride around the hay field and providing answers to questions about the property
straw fort: young children’s scavenger hunt for Halloween treats
spooky stories around the bonfire
haunted trail walk
costumed pony rides: $2 per person
pumpkin decorating: $3 to decorate and take home a pumpkin
Hot dogs, popcorn, chips, granola bars, hot chocolate, water and soda will be sold.
Volunteers are needed, including vampires, ghosts, werewolves and monsters. Call 815-475-4035 for details.

Compost bin sale

Ag breakfast set
MORRIS — Anyone involved in agriculture is invited to a casual breakfast where individuals from different agriculture organizations, businesses and companies can discuss current events and issues.
The Grundy County Soil and Water Conservation District hosts an Agriculture Breakfast on Nov. 16 at R-Place Restaurant Meeting Room.
A buffet breakfast begins at 7 with a small program at 7:30 a.m. to give everyone a chance for introductions and say a couple things about their organization.
Russ Higgins, of the University of Illinois Extension, will give the morning presentation about the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center in Shabbona.
The breakfast, which sosts $9, ends at 8:30 a.m.
Reservations are due by noon Nov. 15.
There will be a table available for fliers, brochures and business cards so feel free to bring items that you would like to share with everyone. Extend an invitation to anyone interested in learning about the local agriculture community and about federal conservation programs.
