JOLIET — Old Country Buffet has closed its Joliet location, one of 83 restaurants it is closing after filing for bankruptcy last week.
The Joliet restaurant was on Plainfield Road (Route 30) across from the Westfield Louis Joliet mall. It is one of eight locations to close in Illinois, including restaurants in Naperville, Bradley and Countryside.
Minnesota-based Buffets, Inc. had nearly 500 Old Country Buffet restaurants before the Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing aimed at eliminating $245 million in debt.
The Joliet restaurant at 2811 Plainfield Road opened in 1997 and was the second location in town. The other, which closed about a year later, was located in what was then called Wilderness Mall but was better known by its original name, Jefferson Square Mall. That mall has since been demolished to make room for the Menards-Walmart development on Jefferson Street at Caterpillar Drive.
Other Illinois locations closing with the bankruptcy are in Lombard, Northlake, West Dundee and Fairview Heights.
