A disabled freight train in a Joliet rail yard temporarily halted Metra trains Tuesday morning, causing delays and headaches for southwest suburban Metra commuters.
Crews have managed to restore inbound train service from Joliet on the Heritage Corridor and Rock Island District lines, but commuters may see some residual delays, according to Metra’s website.
Inbound train No. 400 on the Rock Island line is running on a modified express schedule and will express to New Lenox before making all stops until full, then head toward Chicago, the website said. The following inbound trains are running about an hour late.
The disabled freight train did not affect Rock Island trains leaving further up the line from south suburban Blue Island.
Commuters should check Metra’s website for the status of their trains.
