NEW LENOX — The New Lenox Fire Protection District hosted a promotional ceremony for eight firefighters to the rank of lieutenant and one to captain.
The firefighters had to meet specific qualifications to apply and test for the position. They had to endure a two-hour written exam, oral interviews by fire commissioners, and participate in an interactive assessment of their leadership and supervisory skills based on everyday scenarios in the fire service.
Promoted to lieutenant were Bryan Chap, Ryan Hall, Jeremiah Naughton, Dennis Randolph, Lucas Rettke, Josh Swanson, Daniel Vanek and Tom Van Tilburg.
Lt. Josh Swanson was promoted to captain. He now will be the shift commander on Gold Shift at Station One in charge of 15 firefighters.
In addition to the promotions, the district added two employees off the eligibility list. Firefighter/paramedics Jeff Petschinsky and Bryan Pattison both were previous contract employees with Kurtz Paramedic Services.
Chief Jon Mead also honored three firefighters in charge of training and handling of Red, a search-and-rescue bloodhound dog that resides at Station Four. Firefighter/paramedic Greg Gaj and firefighter/EMTs Frank Hasik and Anthony Palkovitz all received a canine handler lapel pin.
