SHOREWOOD — Village revenues from the 911 telephone surcharge will be reallocated to the Western Will County Communications Center, better known as WESCOM.
The village board Tuesday unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement redirecting $11,600 back to the communications center, which is used by seven area police departments and 13 fire departments.
All WESCOM agencies approve similar agreements, allowing the center to pool the money for capital improvements, police Chief Aaron Klima said.
“The principle is we can get more done together than we can separately,” he said.
Trustee Dan Anderson said the village pays nearly $22,500 per month for dispatch services as a member of the regional center.
In other business, the village board honored a departing longtime parks and recreation committee member and approved an ordinance permitting the sale of alcohol at Village Hall for an upcoming special event.
The board authorized the one-day-only sale of alcoholic beverages for the Shorewood HUGS annual Chocolate Ball fundraiser Feb. 4. The organization’s annual event raises money to grant wishes for area residents in need.
Trustee Celine Schwartz, chairwoman of the parks committee, said it was with much sadness that she was to read a resolution honoring Kelly Haussmann, a member of the committee since 2003.
“We’ll really miss you,” said Schwartz, who noted that Haussmann’s nearly nine years of service was done with “undying enthusiasm and unfaltering dedication.”
Haussmann, a lifelong Shorewood resident who is moving to Crystal Lake, said the recognition was an honor.
“I love this town,” she said. “I’m passionate about this town. Thank you.”
