A woman in Iowa has given birth to a baby weighing nearly 14 pounds with no Cesarean section.
Asher Stewardson came into the world Thursday, Jan. 26 weighing 13 pounds, 13 ounces and 23 1/2 inches long.
The newborn boy was delivered naturally -- no epidural in six hours of labor.
“We wanted to avoid a C-section because that would have not been good for me or the baby,” mom Kendall Stewardson said. “We didn’t want to forfeit the best possible outcome.”
Asher is believed to be the biggest baby ever born at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines without a surgical delivery. His 15-month-old brother, Judah, weighed 12 pounds, 1 ounce at birth.
The heaviest baby born to a healthy mother occurred in September 1955 in Aversa, Italy, according to Guinness World Records. He weighed 22 pounds, 8 ounces.
