Complaint leads to gun charge

Updated: March 4, 2012 8:11AM

JOLIET — An Indiana man suspected of lewd behavior reportedly admitted he had a loaded gun in his car Wednesday.

Cmdr. Rich Demick said a woman approached an officer working downtown around 10 a.m. and said she’d seen a man masturbating inside a white Chevrolet parked near the Joliet Public Library.

A description of the vehicle was broadcast, and Officer Amy Chochola stopped the car at Jefferson and Ottawa streets.

“The driver denied masturbating but told the officers he was carrying a semi-automatic handgun loaded with 14 rounds in his glove compartment,” Demick said.

State law prohibits transportation of loaded weapons. Robert W. Pachowiak, 49, of Lafayette, Ind., was arrested and booked into the county jail on a charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
