Police: Joliet boy tortured cat

Updated: March 9, 2012 8:19AM

JOLIET — Police say a 13-year-old boy vented his anger by torturing a cat Saturday.

“This is disturbing,” Cmdr. Al Roechner said. “The boy said he felt mad and the only thing he could find (was) a cat belonging to his mother’s roommate.”

The boy reportedly poured boiling water on the animal, hit it with a broom and threw shoes at it around 3 p.m. Saturday at a residence in the 200 block of Broadway.

“The owner brought the cat to a veterinarian with a crushed pelvis and severe burns that required the cat to be put down,” Roechner said.

The owner called animal control about the incident and was told to contact the police department. Officers investigated the case and interviewed the boy before arresting him Monday afternoon on a charge of aggravated cruelty to animals. He was booked into the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
