JOLIET — Band leader Paul Shaffer will appear with the Official Blues Brothers Revue at the Rialto Square Theatre next month.
Shaffer is most recognized as the band leader and sidekick to David Letterman on “The Late Show With David Letterman.” He will make a special appearance at the Rialto on March 5 with the Official Blues Brothers Revue to mark the 30th anniversary of John Belushi’s death.
Shaffer was the musical director for Belushi and Dan Akroyd when the two performed as the Blues Brothers.
The Official Blues Brothers Revue is sanctioned by Akroyd and by Belushi’s estate. The two comic actors launched the band with their performance as Jake and Elwood Blues in “The Blues Brothers,” which features an opening scene filed at the Joliet Correctional Center.
The Rialto on Wednesday announced that Shaffer will join original members of the Blues Brothers Band, including Tom “Bones” Malone, Matt “Guitar” Murphy and “Blue Lou” Marini, who perform in the Official Blues Brothers Revue. Another guest performer at the Rialto show is Otis Day, from the band Otis Day and the Knights, created for the movie “Animal House.”
Tickets for the show cost $40 to $55. They may be purchased at the Rialto box office at 102 N. Chicago St. or by calling 815-726-6600 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Tickets also are available at www.ticketmaster.com and www.rialtosquare.com.
