LOCKPORT — Two men turned themselves in to police Monday after allegedly forging prescriptions for medication.
Lt. Dave Draksler said Patrick D. Cherco, 28, and Jarrod L. Schaller, 30, both of 211 N. Farrell Road used a prescription pad stolen from Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
“On Jan. 25, they had prescriptions for Cherco, and a female filled them at Walgreens. After Cherco was identified, he and Schaller were interviewed and admitted using them,” Draksler said.
Arrest warrants were obtained for both men, who surrendered Monday afternoon and were booked into the county jail on charges of unauthorized possession of blank prescription forms.
Painkiller prescription
JOLIET — Police say a woman arrested for prescription fraud last week tried running away after getting out of her handcuffs.
Cmdr. Al Roechner said a pharmacy technician at Kodo Pharmacy, 1522 E. Washington St., called police around 3:30 p.m. Thursday. She had become suspicious about a prescription for painkillers and checked with the doctor who prescribed them.
“The doctor confirmed it was a forgery and officers arrived just after Jodi L. Prewitt, 28, had left the pharmacy, but she was spotted in the convenience store next door,” Roechner said. “When officers entered, she tried hiding in a backroom, but was taken into custody. She had prescriptions under two different names and a blank pad with her.”
When the officer opened the back door of the squad car Prewitt, of 21 Peale St., was allegedly able to get her hand out of the handcuff and ran across Briggs Street.
“She was recaptured in the nearby gas station parking lot, properly handcuffed and put back in the car,” Roechner said.
Prewitt was booked into the county jail on charges of forgery, unauthorized possession of blank prescription forms and attempted escape.
Man shot in robbery
NEW LENOX TOWNSHIP — A man told police he was shot at during a robbery Saturday night.
The 44-year-old man came home around 8:10 p.m. to the 14300 block of West Summerfield Drive when he saw a blue Chevrolet Impala drive up, reports said.
While walking to his front door, the victim saw a man get out of the passenger seat, point a handgun at him and tell him to drop the bag he carried, Will County Sheriff’s police said.
The bag contained three Chicago Bears seat covers the victim had just purchased.
“The victim threw the bag to him and stepped toward his van for cover, dialing 911 on his cell phone,” reports said.
As the man lay on the ground, the robber fired three shots before running back to the Impala and dropping the bag and seat covers on the ground.
The suspect was described as black man with a black beard. He is in his 40s and is about 6 foot 3 inches tall. He was wearing black pants and a black jacket with white stripes.
