Updated: March 17, 2012 10:06AM

MOKENA — People experiencing hearing loss and having a hard time communicating on the telephone are encouraged to attend a free event sponsored by a local United Way agency and a local hearing specialist.

A free hearing screening and amplified telephone selection event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 6 at CN Hearing, at 2006 Wolf Road.

The event is a collaboration between CN Hearing and the Will-Grundy Center for Independent Living. They are teaming up to offer hearing screenings and amplified telephones at no cost to seniors, veterans or hearing-impaired individuals.

Debbie Tarrant, independent living advocate at the center, will complete paperwork required for individuals to qualify for the free amplified telephones.

People will be able to select from a variety of amplified phones. Individuals need only bring the latest land-line telephone bill and identification as proof of Illinois residency.

For information, call the center at 815-729-0162 or visit www.will-grundycil.org. Call 815-729-2085 for TTY.
