Man charged with forgery in Frankfort

Updated: March 18, 2012 8:11AM

FRANKFORT — Police said a Chicago man cashed forged checks in several towns before being arrested Tuesday.

Cmdr. Kevin Keegan said the manager of MB Financial Bank, 20825 LaGrange Road, contacted police Jan. 30 after Gentle Taylor, 54, tried to cash two checks.

“He’d already cashed a check on Dec. 23 for $938.45, but these checks were denied,” Keegan said. “The manager found out he had also cashed checks in Tinley Park, Crete and Dyer, Ind.”

All of the checks appeared to have been issued by Providence Life Services, which had no records of issuing checks to Taylor.

Keegan said Taylor used his photo ID and fingerprint, which detectives viewed with surveillance video before he was picked up at his residence at 3828 Taylor St.

Taylor was booked into the county jail on three counts of forgery.
