SHOREWOOD — Eight village streets are slated for resurfacing as part of Shorewood’s 2012 street improvement program.
The village board unanimously approved a resolution allocating the village’s motor fuel tax money, to the design and construction of a variety of street improvements.
The annual street program will be funded by $400,000 motor fuel tax dollars and another $400,000 from the village’s capital improvement fund.
Trustee Dan Anderson said the village continues to match the motor fuel tax revenues with its own dollars to adhere to the village’s long-range street improvement plan.
The village also will spend about $80,000 for crack sealing on some village roads that are 2 to 3 years old, he said.
The roads slated for improvement include Brookshore Drive from Jefferson Street to Deerwood Court; Westshore Drive from Picnic Street to South Raven Road; Ranchwood Drive from River Road to South Raven Road; Greenfield Road from Country Drive to the dead end; Carla Drive from Meadow Drive to Ridge Road; Manor Drive from Mound Road to Mound Road; and Ridge Road from Brookshore Drive to Parkshore Drive.
Village Engineer Bryan Welch said the project soon will go to bid and a bid alternate also will be requested.
“It has a bid alternate in case bids come in favorably and the village wants to add more roads,” he said.
The village board also approved an engineering services agreement with Baxter & Woodman to oversee the project at a cost not to exceed $28,000.
In other business, the board approved revisions to the Seil Road force main relocation project.
The project, originally proposed in 2009, was designed to install the force main under Route 59 and Seil Road and under Route 59 at the entrance to Interstate 55. However, with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s reconstruction of the Route 55 and I-55 interchange, installation of the main can be done in a less expensive way.
The project is expected to cost $35,000, which is $150,000 less than previously proposed.
