Spring road projects to start across Will County

With the arrival of spring, area road projects are getting under way.

Cherry Hill Road

JOLIET — The railroad crossing on Cherry Hill Road between Spencer and Laraway roads will be closed for rail work track services by the CN Railway Co.

The improvements will involve a full road closure 24 hours a day beginning at 6 a.m. Monday and concluding on or before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A detour will be posted using Ellis Court, Gougar Road and Laraway Road.

Route 53

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that a project to resurface Route 53 between Hoff and South Arsenal roads near Elwood and Wilmington will begin April 2, weather permitting.

The project, rescheduled from last year, will require lane closures on Route 53 over the next four months.

From April 2 to July 31, Route 53 will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Hoff and South Arsenal roads.

D Construction Inc. of Coal City is the prime contractor on the $3.4 million project.

I-80 sound barriers

NEW LENOX — IDOT also announced that the construction of new sound walls along portions of the recently widened Interstate 80 in Will County started.

The project will require closing I-80’s right shoulders between Parker and Wolf roads near New Lenox and Mokena.

A total of 1.2 miles of sound wall will be constructed.

The anticipated completion date is Aug. 31.

Lorig Construction Co. of Des Plaines is the prime contractor on the $3.5 million project.
