Briggs Street rail crossing to be closed

JOLIET — The Canadian National Railway has scheduled repairs of the Briggs Street grade crossing beginning at 6 a.m. Monday and concluding on or before 6:30 p.m. April 19.

Complete road closure will be required.

Detour signs will be posted on Laraway Road (east), Gougar Road (north) and Haven Road (west).

Signs for “no trucks over 14 tons” will be posted on Spencer Road.

Battery disposal

JOLIET — The Will County Land Use Department’s Resource Recovery and Energy division has partnered with Call2Recycle to give residents a way to safely dispose of rechargeable batteries.

Batteries may be left at the security station on the ground floor of the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St., or at the Land Use Department, 58 E. Clinton St., Suite 500, on the building’s fifth floor, from 8:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Batteries should be taped at both ends, preferably with duct tape.
