Dine at Heroes to help needy families

Updated: May 14, 2012 8:13AM

JOLIET — You can help those in need Monday by dining at Heroes West, at 1530 Commerce Drive.

Simply let the waitresses know you are helping Joliet Central High School and Operation Outreach, and 10 percent of your purchase will go directly to helping those in the Joliet community that are food insecure.

Students in the Joliet Central and Arts/Communication academies are joining forces to raise $12,500 to purchase food for local families in need.

“We are partnering with Operation Outreach, a non-profit organization, which will deliver the meals to our school so that we can provide food to local service organizations and churches,” said Joliet Central teacher Laurie Markatos.

Students are raising money using pledge cards, collecting money in the cafeteria, selling candy and T-shirts, and by taking part in musical programs and shows. They will also package the food when it arrives to the school on May 1.

Donations should be mailed to the attention of Mike Lutz c/o Joliet Central High School, 201 E. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL 60432. Checks should be made out to Outreach.
