In 1904, the Aurora, Plainfield & Joliet Railway established a streetcar line with a popular, 20-acre camping resort in Plainfield. The park became known as Electric Park, where locals could rent cabins, enjoy dancing, dining, boating and swimming in the DuPage River and other pastimes. Electric Park closed in 1923 when electric streetcars were replaced by buses. Today, a plaque near downtown Plainfield marks the old entrance to Electric Park.
