The inaugural event of the new Patrick Mizwicki Strive for 5 Foundation will be a 5K fun run/walk on May 19.
The foundation’s goal is to carry on the memory of Mizwicki, a 14-year-old Lincoln-Way East High School freshman who was fatally struck by a car during cross country practice in September.
The foundation will encourage others to “strive for 5” by promoting values such as sportsmanship, hard work, determination, being a friend to everyone, and seeking their personal best.
Mizwicki, of New Lenox Township, wore the number 5 on his baseball jersey.
The foundation will award a “Strive For 5” college scholarship to a Lincoln-Way East senior who played for Frankfort boys baseball or girls softball and who is a good role model.
Participants can register online for the 5K fun run/walk at www.patrickmizwickifoundation.com. Advance registration is $20 and includes a T-shirt. Same-day registration is $25, and no T-shirt is offered.
Check-in time is from 8 to 9 a.m. May 19, and the race will begin at 9 a.m. at Breidert Green in downtown Frankfort. Postrace refreshments will be provided.
