JOLIET — Starting April 30, weather permitting, routine bridge inspections on Interstate 80 over the Des Plaines River will require daily lane closures.
The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the lane closures will be set and removed daily. They will be scheduled during off-peak travel periods to minimize the effect on traffic.
The inspections, required by the Federal Highway Administration, will begin on the westbound I-80 bridge April 30, switching to the eastbound bridge approximately May 6. One lane will be closed while the inspections are taking place.
The inspections are anticipated to be completed by May 10.
No closures are scheduled for May 4, but some are planned for May 5 and 6.
