Police Blotter: Man arrested for car theft burglary of residence

NEW LENOX — Police say a Tinley Park man stole a car after breaking into a house Sunday night.

According to reports, police were called around 8:30 p.m. to the 1100 block of Route 6 after a vehicle was stolen and a camera and computer equipment was taken from inside.

Law enforcement was able to use an OnStar system to track the car to 72nd Street and Western Avenue in Chicago where police found Justin F. Benoit, 30, inside.

Benoit, of 8807 176th St., was booked into the county jail Monday on charges of residential burglary and motor vehicle theft.

Fire damages house

JOLIET — Fire damaged the bedroom of a residence Monday evening.

Firefighters reported smoke showing from a second-floor window around 6:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Oscar Avenue. No one was home at the time and the damage was contained to the room.
