WILL COUNTY — Basement fires damaged houses in Joliet and Lockport Township Thursday evening.
Lockport Battalion Chief Paul Hertzmann said a fire started at about 5:30 p.m. at a residence in the 1500 block of Daisy Court. No one was home at the time, but crews arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the basement.
“The fire caused significant heat and smoke damage to both floors of the house above the basement,” Hertzmann said.
The fire took approximately 20 minutes to extinguish and an investigator was working to determine the cause Thursday night.
In Joliet, another fire was reported at 6:22 p.m. in the 2800 block of Billie Limacher Lane on the far west side.
That blaze also appeared to start in the basement and spread throughout the residence. The fire took about an hour to get under control and no injuries were reported.
