Democrats plan to name McGuire’s replacement Monday

Updated: May 30, 2012 8:22AM

The committee that will pick a replacement for former state Rep. Jack McGuire (D-Joliet) has moved up its decision to Monday, Will County Democratic Party Chairman Scott Pyles said.

Pyles said the committee wants someone ready to go to Springfield when the next legislative session starts Tuesday.

“Whoever is picked will be going to Springfield on Tuesday,” he said.

Pyles said Friday afternoon that the four applicants for the 86th House seat have been interviewed. While he had previously planned to convene the committee later in the week to announce a decision, Pyles said the consensus of the three-person committee was to move up the schedule because of the start of the legislative session.

Four applicants have put in for the seat vacated by McGuire when he resigned on April 6.

The applicants are: Daniel O’Connell, a Joliet lawyer and member of the Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees; Joliet City Councilwoman Jan Quillman, who works as a nurse; Paige Vanderhyden, a member of the school board for the Joliet Township High School District and director of workforce development at Joliet Junior College; and Larry Walsh Jr., a Jackson Township trustee and secretary-treasurer for the Machinists District 8 union.

The committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the Joliet Park District board room at the Inwood complex.
