NEW LENOX — If you’re approaching or going through menopause now, find out how eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and avoiding smoking can improve your daily life.

Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center’s Prescription for a Healthy Life free seminar will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the New Lenox Park District’s Lion’s Community Center, 1 Manor Drive.

The program is part of Provena Saint Joe’s Red Hot Mamas lecture series that focuses on offering information for pre-, post- and menopausal women to help alleviate discomfort and improve overall health during this important time of life.

“By approaching menopause as a new and exciting stage of life and planning for the changes, women can feel self-assured, healthy and more energetic,” said program presenter Dr. Mickey Jester, section director for mammography and image-guided breast biopsy at Provena Saint Joe’s in Joliet. “Making healthy choices and learning the facts can empower you to look forward to and enjoy this new phase of life.”

Jester will discuss metabolism changes during menopause; weight gain and how to keep it under control; the importance of exercise to help lower the risk of disease; how to start an exercise program and choose a fitness instructor or gym; and eating the proper foods to minimize hot flashes.

A board-certified diagnostic radiologist, Jester earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed a diagnostic radiology residency and a fellowship in vascular radiology at Penn State University Hospital in Hershey, Pa. She has been in practice for 20 years.

To register, call 815-725-9438. Light, healthy snacks will be served at 6 p.m., and Jester’s presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session.
