Police make gun, DUI arrests in Joliet

JOLIET — Traffic crashes and DUI reports led to police seizing two guns and making three arrests late Friday and early Saturday.
At 11:38 p.m. Friday police were called to an accident involving five vehicles at Marion and Hickory streets.
“Two vehicles collided near the intersection and careened into three parked cars,” Lt. Ed Gregory said. Jakkar G. Hosey, 21, of 3 S. Broadway, reportedly ran from the scene but was caught near Marion and Comstock streets. Hosey was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving on a suspended license, vandalism, hit-and-run, failing to report an accident and speeding.
At 3:30 a.m. Saturday shots were overheard in the 1100 block of Elgin Avenue and brought police to the area.
“A few minutes later, a vehicle struck a house in the nearby 1000 block of Woodruff Road and the driver ran,” Gregory said. No one was injured and officers reportedly found Darwin Pitts, 23, of 122 Baker Ave., on a nearby street and identified him as the driver.
“He was intoxicated and was also arrested for DUI,” Gregory said. “While searching his vehicle, officers found a loaded .32 (caliber) Smith and Wesson revolver on the dashboard.”
About 20 minutes later, police stopped a vehicle at Cass and Chicago streets and allegedly saw the rear passenger making furtive movements in his seat before officers approached. The man reportedly gave a false name before he was identified as Raymond J. Fuqua, 22, of 407 Ontario St., who was wanted on two outstanding warrants.
“A search of the car near his seat found a loaded .38 special (handgun),” Gregory said.
Fuqua is on parole for weapons violations. He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, obstructing justice and possession of a firearm by a gang member.
