BOLINGBROOK — What’s the beef?
Police were called Jan. 26 to a store in the 700 block of East Boughton Road after security guards reportedly spotted a man shoplifting.
According to reports, the man walked out carrying a package of ground beef (extra lean) and was stopped by employees.
“He refused to go back into the store and fled toward the parking lot, entered a green Ford Explorer and left the area,” Lt. Mike Rompa said.
“The beef” occurred because surveillance footage reportedly shows he’d already concealed a computer game, a DVD and $50 worth of razor blades in his clothes before taking the sirloin, which was valued at $5.70.
Rompa said detectives were able to identify the suspect as Derrick R. Lowe and obtain a warrant for his arrest.
Lowe, 45, of 3717 Shagbark Trail in Crete, was picked up on May 15 and booked into the county jail on charges of burglary and theft.
