JOLIET — A local family will hold a garage sale at their home Saturday to benefit the Relay for Life.
The sale, at 1308 Sherwood Place, will go from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include items such as clothing and household goods.
Ryan and Brandon Newberry, brothers from Joliet, formed a Relay for Life team alongside their family and friends last year after losing both their uncle and grandfather to cancer.
“We started our Relay for Life team because we experienced a relay before and our friends and family were all eager to join and start our own team,” sad Brandon. “It was one of those things where all of us knew somebody that was affected by it and this was our way of fighting back for the cause.”
His brother agreed, saying, “Everyone has a reason to fight cancer.”
The brothers will also be selling raffle tickets for $5 each at their garage sale. Some of the raffle prizes include a Kindle Fire and Blackhawks hockey pucks. Winners will be drawn at the Relay for Life on June 23 at Memorial Stadium.
The Newberry family will also be accepting item donations at their home at 3 p.m. Friday from anyone interested in contributing.
