New Orleans fest to be Friday

JOLIET — New Orleans North, the Joliet Chamber of Commerce’s first annual New Orleans fest, will be from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday on Chicago Street between Jefferson and Van Buren streets.
Patrons 21 and older are welcome.
There will be a $5 cover charge, a variety of food vendors and two beer tents. Chicago Blues Angels and T-Bird Huck are scheduled to perform. Tickets are available at the chamber office, 63 N. Chicago St. For information, visit www.jolietchamber.com.
Ready for emergencies
JOLIET — A “Gear Up Get Ready” preparedness event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Des Plaines Street Community Center.
Will County Executive Larry Walsh, state Sen.Pat McGuire and state Rep. Larry Walsh Jr. will participate.
The Will County Emergency Management Agency, partnered with the Housing Authority of Joliet, invites families to attend the fun-filled event designed to encourage emergency preparedness.
