ROMEOVILLE — Four Joliet residents were arrested Tuesday after reportedly mugging a man for bottled water.

Eric D. Williamson, 25, of 361 First Ave.; Robert A. Martinez, 24, of 416 Summit St.; Marite T. Lane, 26, of 211 Moran St., and Samantha D. Miller, 22, of 421 Division St., were booked into the county jail on charges of aggravated battery.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Lucchesi said the 26-year-old victim was loading cases of bottled water into his car around 6 a.m. at Speedway, 701 N. Independence Blvd., when one of the four suspects said he should give him a bottle.

“He said ‘No’ and went back inside to bring out some bags of ice. When he came back out, the two men jumped him and began beating him and the two women joined in and also began punching and kicking him,” Lucchesi said.

The quartet fled in Lane’s red car, which was stopped by responding officers on Route 53. Lane also was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Williamson also was charged with obstructing justice for allgedly giving officers a fake name since he had an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court.

The victim refused medical treatment at the scene, but later told police he had gone to the hospital for treatment for a broken nose and broken ankle, Lucchesi said.
