Police blotter: Cops say burglar took ‘anything he could carry out’

Updated: July 6, 2012 10:21AM

JOLIET — An accused burglar confronted with evidence that he broke into at least one home allegedly spilled his guts to police about 10 other burglaries he committed, even driving around with police to show them the locations.

Cordell Sims, 30, of 1413 Pioneer Road in Crest Hill, was arrested by Joliet and Crest Hill police and charged Friday with 11 counts — five in Joliet, six in Crest Hill — of residential burglary.

Some of the burglaries date back to last summer, said Joliet police Cmdr. Brian Benton.

After breaking into residences by kicking or otherwise forcing in a door, Sims mostly took jewelry and money, Benton said, a fact Crest Hill Police Chief Dwayne Wilkerson confirmed.

“(He took) anything he could easily carry out,” Benton said.

Most of the Joliet burglaries he is suspected of committing occurred in the 1200 and 1300 blocks of Brentwood, Benton said. Most of the Crest Hill incidents were reported in the 1200 to 1400 blocks of Rock Run Drive.

Benton said Sims admitted to taking some stolen jewelry to a local pawn shop, and police are planning to follow up there.
