JOLIET — A man was shot multiple times, in the head and back, and died Sunday night in the 1500 block of Englewood Avenue, authorities said.
Donald R. Autman Jr., 29, of Matteson was pronounced dead at 10:07 p.m. Sunday at an area hospital, the Will County coroner’s office said Monday.
Autman was the victim of an apparent homicide, and an autopsy performed Monday revealed preliminary results of multiple gunshot wounds, the office said.
Two Joliet police officers working in the area heard gunshots around 8:58 p.m. and drove toward the scene, Joliet police said.
The officers came around the corner in the 1500 block of Englewood, and saw the victim lying wounded on the ground, police said. Officers attempted to help the victim, and he was transported to the hospital.
Witnesses saw two men running north from the area after the incident. However, other witnesses were not cooperative with police, Joliet police said Monday.
Police are investigating the shooting, and people with information are asked to call the Investigations Division at 815-724-3020 or to call CrimeStoppers.
A final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police and other reports.
Funeral home selection was pending on Monday afternoon.
