Police Blotter: Police say shoplifting teens pushed store employee

Updated: July 9, 2012 6:12AM

JOLIET — Two teens were arrested Wednesday after reportedly spitting and pushing an employee who caught them shoplifting.

Cmdr. Brian Benton said police were called at 12:30 p.m. after Orlando M. James, 17, and a 15-year-old boy were taking items and causing a disturbance at Dollar General, 916 W. Jefferson St.

“They have been banned from the premises for previous thefts and walked out with merchandise,” Benton said. “When an employee caught up to them on the street, the 15-year-old spat on her and pushed her head.”

Responding officers spotted the suspects further down the street and arrested them. James had a bottle of unprescribed medication in his pocket, Benton said.

James, of 1 N. Center St., already was being sought on a warrant for failing to appear in court on a battery charge earlier this week, reports said.

He was booked into the county jail on charges of shoplifting, criminal trespassing and narcotics possession.

The minor was booked into the River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
