With the help of a green energy grant from the state, the village of Frankfort has installed a charging station for electric cars at its Breidert Green parking lot in the downtown area.

The charging station and installation cost $5,895, and the village was reimbursed for 50 percent of the cost with the grant.

To enhance safety, drivers use a ChargePoint Card or call a toll-free number to unlock and energize the system.

Electric charges on the system are free, but Frankfort will have the option in the future to charge.

“This charging station demonstrates the support that we believe our residents have for energy efficiency, for a positive ecological image,” Mayor Jim Holland said.
