In addition to triple-digit temperatures, Chicago-area residents are also being warned of unhealthy pollution levels.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has announced an Air Pollution Action Day for the Chicago metropolitan area Thursday, meaning “widespread ozone or fine particulate matter” levels are expected to be at or above an unhealthy level for sensitive groups.
People with pulmonary or respitory disorders, such as asthma, should be especially wary, but active children and adults should also limit physical activity outdoors, the Illinois EPA said.
Information and Air Quality Index levels can be found at www.epa.state.il.us and at www.airnow.gov.
