Drought prompts Plainfield to cancel fireworks

The dry conditions have prompted the village of Plainfield to cancel its annual July 3 fireworks.

The district, fire department and police department made the joint decision as a safety precaution,

according to he village’s web site.

“This summer’s hot, dry weather and the resulting parched ground conditions have created an increased risk of fire in association with this year’s fireworks display,” the village stated in a press release posted online.

The district will work to reschedule the fireworks display.

The Patriotic Picnic portion of the event will continue as planned at 5 p.m. at Plainfield Central, 24120 W. Fort Beggs Drive.
