An 80-year-old Frankfort woman died Sunday and two men remained hospitalized Monday — including her husband, who was in serious condition — after a two-vehicle crash in Crete Township, officials said.
Joyce Dirutigliano, of the 20700 block of Hunts Club Drive, was pronounced dead at Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 5:07 p.m. Sunday, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said Monday. The cause of death was multiple injuries, the examiner’s office said.
Dirutigliano was a passenger in a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by her husband, Dominic Dirutigliano, 85, Will County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said. The couple were heading west on Exchange Avenue near Burville Road when he lost control of the vehicle about 3:15 p.m. Sunday, she said.
The roadway was wet from earlier rains, Hoffmeyer said. Their vehicle slid into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2008 Toyota 4Runner driven by a 61-year-old man from St. John, Ind.
That man suffered a broken shoulder and internal injuries and was taken to Christ Medical Center, Hoffmeyer said. Dominic Dirutigliano, who may have suffered a fractured neck, also was taken there.
Dirutigliano was in serious condition Monday, while the man from St. John was in fair condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
No traffic tickets were issued, Hoffmeyer said.
