JOLIET — Two men were shot during a fight at a tavern early Tuesday.
At 12:30 a.m. police were called to Crow’s Nest, 1400 N. Center St. when the fighting began.
“Witnesses said two groups of men had been sitting at the bar when they began punching and throwing chairs (before) they started shooting at each other,” Chief Mike Trafton said.
The combatants fled before police arrived, but two men arrived a short time later at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center with gunshot wounds that were not life-threatening.
A 36-year-old man underwent surgery after being shot in the abdomen and an “uncooperative” 32-year-old man was treated for a wound to his right leg.
Trafton said detectives would review surveillance footage of the fight, which appears to be “gang-related.”
Man molests 6-year-old at home
JOLIET — A 21-year-old man allegedly molested a 6-year-old girl at his home.
On Monday afternoon a witness came into the living room of 2021 Tamarack Drive to see Oscar Aguirre performing on the victim while they were on a couch, police said.
The witness notified a relative who called the police. The victim was not physically injured but was examined at the hospital.
After detectives conducted interviews and attempted to question Aguirre, he was booked into the county jail on charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
