Wilmington band, Navy quintet to perform

WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Area Community Band will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Park, Williams and Vine streets.

At 4 p.m., the U.S. Navy Band Great Lakes Brass Ambassadors will perform. The Ambassadors are a brass quintet that performs classical, dixieland and march arrangements.

It is suggested that people bring a lawn chair or blanket, along with snacks and water.

Historian to present coal mining program

BRAIDWOOD — Local historian Richard Joyce will present a program on Northern Illinois Coal Mining at 7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 141 W. Main St.

The program is sponsored by the Braidwood Area Historical Society. Following the program, the event will move across the street to the Braidwood Area Historical Society Museum, 111 N. Center St.

Joyce, a descendent of coal miners, is a resident of Coal City, a retired teacher and serves on the Grundy County Board.
