Police Blotter: Porch falls on firefighter

JOLIET — A firefighter escaped serious injury when a porch fell on top of him Sunday evening.
Capt. Bob Wohlrab said smoke was reported at 6:13 p.m. at a house in the 500 block of Whitley Avenue where no one was home.
“Crews arrived and found a neighbor extinguishing a porch fire with his garden hose. As they were inspecting the scene, there was a popping noise from the back and the porch dettached from the house and fell out into the yard,” Wohlrab said.
Firefighter Alan Molenstra was covered by debris, but was pulled out by fellow firefighters and did not require medical attention, reports said.
Despite the loss of the porch, the fire did not damage the house and residents were allowed to return inside.
28-year-old man dies
COAL CITY — Toxicology results will be required to determine why a 28-year-old man died Saturday.
Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan said Jonathan Viles had been with a group of friends on Friday night and into early Saturday before they found him unresponsive around noon and called 911.
Viles was taken to Morris Hospital and pronounced dead in the emergency room at 1 p.m.
Callahan said an autopsy was preformed Saturday afternoon, but results will not be released pending toxicology results, which take approximately two weeks.
