NEW LENOX — Parishioners at St. Jude’s may need to plan a few extra minutes when driving to Mass. The village board is considering adding an all-way stop to the corner of Pine Street and Second Avenue.
“It is a fairly heavily traveled road especially on school days and during Masses,” Village Engineer Will Nash told the board Monday. “(The intersection) sees a lot more traffic than generally would in a subdivision.”
The intersection has a two-way stop. Nash said increasing it to a four-way stop would make it safer, especially for pedestrians.
Trustee Annette Bowden said she feared the added signs would create even more traffic problems. She had previously lived in that neighborhood and witnessed cars backed up to Fourth Avenue during peak times.
Trustee David Smith said that he anticipates that once Nelson Road opens up, 60 percent of the traffic there will be eliminated.
The board is scheduled to vote July 23.
