JOLIET — Several alternatives for enhancing high-speed rail between Chicago and St. Louis have been studied as part of the Tier 1 Environmental Impact Study.

These alternatives have been narrowed down and those being retained for further study, along with their environmental impacts, are outlined in a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.

The draft will be presented at a public hearing 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jacob Henry Mansion, 15 S. Richards St.

The Tier 1 study by the Illinois Department of Transportation and Federal Railroad Adminstration looked at adding a second track.
